This page describes a simple add-on to an Electric Trolling Motor that provides steering-by-wire.
Complete plans are available that show how to build and adapt the small electric motor powered steering device to any Trolling Motor, without modification, and without interfering with normal motor operations. This device has been fully tested on the water,and will operate even if wet. Total cost to build is about $25.
This is a short video of the electric steering motor in action.
